AI & Design Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been playing a crucial role in various disciplines, including design. To maintain this pace of advancement for art and design students, Jisoo Kim and Simon Archer initiated a workshop series titled "AI for All". This project aimed to improve AI literacy among students, with the ultimate goal of incorporating an AI-design course at Aalto University.

Project Genesis:
Inspiration for the project sparked in December 2022 when Jisoo and Simon discovered the potential of ChatGPT 3.5 to revolutionize the design process. From that point forward, they delved into AI research and began sharing their experience and information with their peers. By March 2023, the goal was set to educate students through a series of lectures and workshops, with an added emphasis on advocating for an AI-Design course at Aalto University. With support from Professor Antti Salovaara, the first "AI for All" workshop was launched on April 28th. These weekly sessions took place at Väre-F101 and ran until the end of June, engaging a total of 31 students.

Outcomes:
The workshops were instrumental in helping students grasp the concept of AI and its application in design. Feedback indicated a transformation in students' perception of AI, transitioning from an abstract buzzword to a practical tool or collaborative entity. The data collected regarding student learning patterns, perceptions, and effective teaching strategies offered valuable insights for future iterations.

This report comprehensively documents every phase of the project, including the processes, findings, and proposals.

Following the success of the workshops, discussions are underway for establishing a formal AI-Design course within Aalto University's Industrial Design department, thereby providing a sustained framework for embedding AI into design education.
